National Indigenous Day Kicks off on Prince Rupert Waterfront

The crowds have been building through the afternoon as residents of Prince Rupert and the neighbouring communities of the North Coast, along with visitors to the region gather at Rotary Waterfront Park to celebrate National Indigenous Day.

At the park, the Main Stage has been set up at the Kwinitsa Station area with booths and tents arranged both in the parking area and along the grass boulevard that leads toward the Whale Statue.

So far in the day, those taking part have been entertained by musicians and enjoyed dancing from a number of groups, many taking advantage of the number of events scheduled for both young and old alike.



The celebrations continue through the afternoon with the 21st edition of the National Indigenous Day coming to an end at 8PM this evening. 

The annual event is held on the longest day of the year, marking the transition from Spring to Summer.
