RCMP advise of wolves on Butze Trail

With many residents making use of the nice weather of late for a walk along some of the trail networks of the city, an item of note this morning from the Prince Rupert RCMP

The Prince Rupert detachment has offered up a word of caution for those who regularly use the Butze Trail, advising of an incident from March 3rd.

In an information statement issued this morning, the Mounties outlined the details of a call for service from a 28 year old woman who had travelled on the trail March 3rd, after she and her dog had been chased by a pack of wolves on the trail.

Police attended and located the woman approximately half way through the trail, when officer's approached the wolves ran off.

The woman did not suffer any injuries, nor did her dog; however, one of the wolves tried nipping at the dogs tail.

The RCMP walked the trail at that time to ensure the safety of other hikers and to warn them of the encounter, they have updated the Conservation Officer's office of the incident.

Earlier this month we made note of similar encounters that had been relayed in late February.

The full statement from the Mounties can be reviewed here.

  1. We see advisories about wolves at Butze every year, and yet people are still stupid enough to ring the dinner bell by bringing their dogs out there.
