Another Successful supply run as Port of Prince Rupert vessels help to bring grocery and other items to Gitxaala (from PRPA/Gitxaala FB pages) |
The Port of Prince Rupert has provided a bit more background towards their assistance to neighbouring communities during the current COVID emergency, sharing some notes and photos on their cargo runs to and from the community of Gitxaala (Kitkatla).
The port's assistance was noted as part of Sunday's Webinar hosted by the Council of Haida Nation, with Chief Councillor Linda Innes making note of the supply runs and offering her thanks to the Port for their help in keeping the supplies coming from Prince Rupert.
In a post to the Port of Prince Rupert Facebook page, a bit more detail to the project has been outlined, detailing some of the cargo carried by the coordinated effort with the Gixaala Emergency Social Services Team.
A shipment from April 21st delivered 15,000 lbs. of supplies – including staples like flour and milk – were loaded with the help of Gitxaala Nation community members in Prince Rupert onto PRPA’s harbour patrol vessels, the AMWAAL and the Charles Hays, and delivered to Lach Klan.
With another shipment having departed Prince Rupert on Tuesday.
The Gitxaala Nation notes that in total over 600 pieces of supplies were delivered as part of the flotilla of vessels from the Port and Gitxaala over the course of the last week.
You can learn more about the cooperation along the coast as well as to explore the photos of the project from the PRPA Facebook page.
