62nd All Native Basketball Tournament April 3-9 in Prince Rupert

It's been far too long an absence, but today, the reunions begin, with the players and fans from villages, towns and cities far away make their way to the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre for the 2022 All Native Basketball Tournament.

The 62nd edition delayed by one year and close to two months, a 2022 COVID rescheduling making for the April opening from its more traditional placement of February.

Through the weekend, the city has recaptured that familiar buzz of anticipation as the tournament opening arrives, with six games this afternoon for the Women's Division to set the tone for the remainder of the week.

Tonight the Opening Ceremony returns at 7PM in the Russell Gamble Gymnasium, the celebration hosted by the Haida Nation.

This year it makes for one of renewal of a tournament that brings so many together to recount the past, celebrate the present and look to the future.

Later in the week the ANBT Committee will enshrine three new players and one team in the Hall of Fame, adding to a long list of success and competition from years past.

In all 55 teams are competing for the opportunity to be part of Finals Saturday on April 10th, a week long journey that will bring some highs, some disappointment and as always a strong sense of competition and community.

All Games take place at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre complex, with the main focus on the Russell Gamble Gymnasium and Arena venues.

Cultural events and exhibits are also part of the week long event at the Civic Centre, with much of that to be found in the Auditorium are of the complex.
