Next Step for Citywest/Connected Coast initiative underway on Denman Island

CityWest's investment and participation in the Connected Coast project has reached a new milestone this week, with the 7.6 million dollar last mile fibre to the home project recently starting a construction phase on Denman Island off of Vancouver Island.

The City of Prince Rupert owned communication company is a partner with Strathcona Regional District, along with the Federal and provincial governments.

After construction is complete, the fibre-optic infrastructure on the islands will be tied into the Connected Coast network.

That initiative will provide backbone communication services to the islands, as well as 137 other rural and remote communities, including 48 Indigenous communities – representing 44 First Nations – along the BC Coast from Prince Rupert, to Haida Gwaii, south to Vancouver, and around Vancouver Island.

Towards the latest stage of the expansive project, CityWest CEO Stefan Woloszyn noted how CityWest's rural roots serve it well in delivering the fibre connection up and down the coast and to Vancouver Island

“We are very excited about this project because it’s more than a partnership – it’s an opportunity for the communities of Denman and Hornby Island to own their connectivity destiny for many years into the future. As a company that was built in rural B.C., we’re proud to have this opportunity to serve you with the connectivity solutions you have been asking for.”
