Residents looking for a little light on West Side's Sloan Avenue

Residents of the Sloan/McKay neighbourhood are still waiting for the
city to replace a light standard which was knocked over in the fall of 2021

A long running issue coming from an automobile incident six months ago made for a question at last week's Prince Rupert City Council session, with Councillor Barry Cunningham relaying some concerns from residents of the Sloan/McKay area related to a missing light standard on the corner as well as to other lighting issues in the neighbourhood.

"I have had some complaints from neighbours there about how dark that corner is and I drove by there the other day and and not only was that light standard out, but another one farther down the block was out so it almost had a blackout in that area and I'm just wondering when this is going to be addressed"

The incident in question that brought down the streetlight dates back to a wild night on the streets around McKay and Sloan in October of 2021, that saw an erratic driver travelling at high speeds eventually crashing into the light at the street corner.

Director of Operations Richard Pucci noted that he was unaware of the lamp standard situation on the west side and would seek to have it addressed following that April 11th council session, though as is seen in the photo above, the street light has yet to be replaced.

More notes on the April 11th Council session can be explored from our Council Timeline feature.
