Proposed Dock for Industrial Park now in comment period

A dock project for Prince Rupert's Industrial park proposed by Protoco Resources Limited is currently at the start of the Comment phase of consideration from the Provincial Government.

The application is for General Commercial Marine access to their waterfront property off of Duncan Road in the Industrial park on the city's Far East side.

Towards the work, Protoco Resources  outlines that Several 16'' steel piles would be churned into rock beneath the seabed to act as anchors for a concrete float and a ramp to access the foreshore land.

When the piles are installed, a pre-fabricated concrete dock would be floated to site and attached to the piles.

Once the float is secured to the piles, an aluminum ramp built to code by a local fabrication shop would be utilized to bridge the dock structure to their foreshore property.

As part of their early work on the project the proponent has already made contact with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, as well as with representatives from both Lax Kw'alaams and Metlakatla.

Protoco notes in their application that the justification of use for the land is to provide for a growing demand in commercial marine use in the area and notes of the other commercial marine interests in the Industrial Park area.

If approved, the construction of the dock would take place between November and February so as to reduce any impact on Fishery winds, once built, Operations for the dock would be on a year round basis.
