Convention time returns for British Columbia's politicians, with AVICC gathering welcoming delegates from North Coast and Haida Gwaii

This past weekend heralded a return to the in person gatherings for regional and municipal politicians in British Columbia, with the Ice breaker if you will for Convention season the AVICC Annual meeting, a three day gathering for members of the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities.

In the Northwest and Haida Gwaii the representation for the 2022 event  was through North Coast Regional District and the Village of Queen Charlotte community, which featured a number of items on the Resolution list for consideration at the conference held at the Victoria Conference Centre.

The 73rd annual meeting for the organization included workshops, tours and forums over the course of the three days of convention making, along with a Trade Show featuring a diverse list of exhibitors.

Community Safety, Health Care and Transportation made for the themes for five Resolutions that were submitted for consideration from the Village of Queen Charlotte by the AGM gathering.

The focus on Marine transportation highlights the ongoing concerns of Haida Gwaii residents over the state of Ferry Service in the province, which has seen a number of challenges over the last year impact on both Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert.

The notes on Health Care are also an area of urgency for residents on both the North Coast mainland and on the Islands as well.

The results of the feedback from the gathering has yet to be noted by the AVICC, you can however take a look back at Convention week, look for a few familiar faces and learn more about the three day event from their information relays below:

Hopefully, Regional District will put together a synopsis of the weekend for residents of the North Coast and Haida Gwaii to learn more of the event and what the delegates have brought back north with them.

The next convention comes in 2023 scheduled for April 14-16 in Nanaimo.

More notes on Regional District can be explored here, while themes of interest on Haida Gwaii can be reviewed here.
