Cow Bay Dock makes for next port in the odyssey of the Hōkūle'a Crew

A special guest is destined to pull up to the Cow Bay Dock this afternoon
as the sailing vessel Hōkūle'a arrives around 4PM

A pretty unique sight will be coming up over the horizon on the Prince Rupert waterfront later this afternoon that as the latest expedition of the Polynesian Voyaging Society makes a port call at Cow Bay Docks.

The sailing vessel Hōkūle'a is set for a late afternoon arrival, 4 PM at last report, though it could vary owing to a late start for the transit across Hecate Strait.

The vessel has been sailing  through Southeast Alaska for the last two months, yesterday they sailed their vessel to Masset where they were received enthusiastically by residents of Haida Gwaii.

The Haida Gwaii stop just one of from a 42 month journey that has taken the vessel over 41,000 kilometres and to 46 countries and over 100 Indigenous territories.

Based out of Hawai'i the Hōkūle'a the mission for the Polynesian Voyaging Society is one of exploration and inspiration. 

A video of their travels provides a glimpse of what the approach to Prince Rupert will look like this afternoon as the Hōkūle'a Crew arrive in the city.

A welcome from local Chiefs and Matriarch's has been planned for this afternoon at Cow Bay Dock,  that providing for the protocol and celebration of their arrival to the Territory.

Following their stop over in Prince Rupert the Hōkūle'a are chart their course south for Harley Bay, Bella Bella and Port Hardy.
