Prince Rupert Port Authority moves ahead with Intermodal Market Assessment and Survey projects

The Prince Rupert Port Authority is looking to the future and launching a pair of initiatives to serve to inform port officials. That through an assessment of Internal Import market factors in marine shipping with a focus on a number of key elements.

The engagement is one that the Port would like to see deliver in six areas of note.

1. Increase PRPA’s awareness of the US/Canada import intermodal market and differentiate between intact marine containers and 53’ container movement containing marine containers cargoes

2. Inform market share measurements through multiple lenses/regions

3. Provide ability to understand scenarios based on industry trends for intact marine containers and domestic 53’ containers

4. Understand what is moving “inside the box”. What are the commodities, types of cargoes, industries that are utilizing Prince Rupert, and what are their needs in a gateway

5. Generate a long-term volume growth forecast and outlook

6. Increase awareness of the Port of Prince Rupert and the service offerings existing or planned.

The project comes with a focus on a number of key elements.

At the same time the Port is also looking to have a survey  conducted towards Intermodal Imports, the focus towards that work looks as follows:

To effectively evaluate and understand the potential for import container volumes through Prince Rupert, a detailed import shipper and carrier survey is required to understand our past, present and potential customers views of the gateway, their evaluation of ports and terminals, and decision-making processes for choosing a port.

Two elements make for that survey project, an Intermodal Import Shipper Survey and an Intermodal Import Marine Carrier survey.
