Metlakatla First Nation releases the final list of candidates for September election


Officials in Metlakatla have delivered the final list of candidates for the upcoming election period for the First Nations community located across Prince Rupert harbour from the City.

Nominations were listed through the Metlakatla First Nation website and Social Media stream, charting the electoral options in three elements of the September election period.

Five names were listed in the final listing for the Position of Chief Councillor, Five for that of Office of On-Reserve Councillor and nine names are on the list for Office of In-Territory Councillor.

One Chief Councillor is to be elected, and three Councillors each for the On Reserve Councillor and In-Territory Councillor positions.

The election takes place on September 29, 2023 with two voting stations to be set up on Election Day, one at the Administration Building in Metlakatla and one at the Coastal Training Centre on Dunsmuir Street in Prince Rupert.

Metlakatla Members can also vote electronically or by mail-in Ballots, the full details towards those options can be reviewed below:

  1. Councillor Reid Skelton Morven has thrown his name in the hat, so what does this mean for his status at the city? He was just voted in, is he abandoning his post? Does he stay unless he wins? It seems tacky…
