Ruby Princess makes hard landing in San Francisco, next sailing delayed pending US Coast Guard clearance

The Ruby Princess in Prince Rupert on Monday

Update: The Ruby Princess was cleared by the US Coast Guard to set sail on Sunday afternoon, the Alaska cruise now reduced to a seven day tour, from the original ten days scheduled.

When the Ruby Princess next calls on the Prince Rupert Cruise Terminal on July 13th, if she makes it here that is, she may look a little rough around the edges ...

The Princess line cruise vessel which makes regular port calls in Prince Rupert this summer was involved in a  docking incident in San Francisco on Thursday, with its passengers jolted to attention as the vessel made its way to dock, a little too close to dock as things turned out.

Media reports from San Franciso show some visible damage to the hull of the vessel (the dock likewise didn't fare so well) after its sudden stop at Pier 27 on the Northern California city's waterfront.

What Princess Cruises is calling "unexpected contact" took place just after 6AM at the end of the most recent Alaska cruise for the Ruby Princess which had its Prince Rupert stop earlier this week.

Princess Cruise Lines told the media in San Francisco that no guests or crew members were injured as a result of the incident.

The cause of the docking mishap is now under investigation by American officials including the US Coast Guard.

The vessel was supposed to depart San Francisco for another tour north at 4PM yesterday but that departure remains delayed, that as Princess Lines seeks clearance to sail as well as to review their schedule for the cruise this week.
