Are we seeing the early stirrings of a Prince Rupert gas war?

One gas station in Prince Rupert, Hays Cove Petro Can has dropped
its price point today for those looking to fill up

Will Prince Rupert motorists get a bit of a break on gas prices this week?

It could be, that if indications from the one local station are any guide post.

So far those with a sharp eye  have picked up on a slight price drop at the Hays Cove Petro Canada, with the price at the pump dropping by five cents to 123.9 as of this morning.

As of a tour we took at 2PM, the Hays Cove station makes for the only local station to bring the price down with all three other Prince Rupert outlets still holding at the 128.9 mark.

Oil market observers had noted that there could be a temporary drop in pricing in Canada following the shock of Monday in the oil export world, with Russia and Saudi Arabia tumbling the price per barrel to some significant lows.

You can find out more about the rivalry between the two nations and its impact on world markets from our political blog D'Arcy McGee.

And while Prince Rupert area drivers keep their eyes on the signs they perhaps won't want to get used to the idea of a tumbling price point.

That as some observers note that it's only a temporary blip on what has been the norm for pricing of late.

Until then though, keep an eye on the price point and fill up as required.

Update: By Thursday morning, the Grassy Bay Petro-Can in the Industrial Park had becme the price point leader, with gas set at 118.9, all other stations in the city were selling gas at 123.9 as of 8AM
