Staffing issues have resulted in the cancellation of some scheduled runs for the MV Kwuna on Haida Gwaii |
While some residents on Haida Gwaii are concerned about those who are arriving on BC Ferries vessels from Prince Rupert, on the Islands its the ability to keep a staffing level for the inter island vessel MV Kwuna that is an immediate concern for the Ferry Service.
In an announcement on Monday, BC Ferries noted that service for the ferry which transits the north and south island of Haida Gwaii between Skidegate to Alliford Bay will be temporarily suspending its last sailing of the day through the month of May on four dates this month.
The dates in question include May 4, 11, 18 and 25 and affect the 10 PM departure from Alliford Bay and the 10:30 sailing departing Skidegate.
BC Ferries notes in the advisory that the cancellation is due to a staffing issue, with the Ferry service required to have a specific number of crew members on board to ensure the safety of passengers during operations.
