Minor Hockey Shutdown over COVID-19 scuppers plans for Midget Championship in Prince Rupert

The hockey season is very well over
at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre
The sound of blades digging into ice and excited yells from the bench and the stands will be silenced for the foreseeable future; that as BC Hockey, following the lead of many organizations suspends Minor Hockey operations across the province.

“The BC Hockey Board of Directors support the leadership shown by Hockey Canada to suspend all hockey operations in an attempt to curb to the spread of the COVID-19 virus and will be following the direction to suspend all BC Hockey games and events until further notice." -- Barry Perrachenko Chief Executive Officer, BC Hockey

The Full Statement from BC Hockey can be reviewed here.

Caught up in the sudden suspension of the sport was the Prince Rupert Minor Hockey Association which was making its final plans to host a Provincial Midget Tournament starting this weekend at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.

The tournament now one of many across Canada that has been cancelled.

Also cancelled have been the plans for the PRMHA peewee team to travel to Golden for a tournament in that community.

While the action on the Ice will be on pause, now until September, the next event for PRMHA coaches, players and their families will be their Year End  Awards Presentation, still scheduled for the Lester Centre on April 22nd.

You can get updates on the PRMHA from their website and Facebook page.
