Alaskan tide brings schedule revisions for AMHS service

The MV Malaspina at dock in Prince Rupert this summer
this week's journey is facing some
schedule revisions owing to tide and weather

See update at bottom of page.

What has been called a "tide delay" in the Petersburg area of Southeast Alaska has had an impact on the Schedule for the Alaska Marine Highway System this week, with schedule revisions now in place for the transit of the MV Malaspina, including its scheduled stops in Prince Rupert.

The advisory for passengers of the service has been posted to the Service Notices section of the AMHS website

The full revised schedule from yesterday through to the 17th for the travels of the Malaspina can be found here.

The service to Prince Rupert from Ketchikan is not the only one affected by weather related issues this week, with a number of advisories posted for travellers for many of the AMHS runs along the Southeast coast.

Weather conditions at the northern end of the Alaskan panhandle near Sitka, have seen high winds and heavy seas, with the impact such that they hampered Search and Rescue efforts for a crew member of the Cruise ship MS Amsterdam last week.

Update August 15 -- Mechanical issues with the Malaspina have resulted in further delays to the schedule for the vessels North-South transits.
