With Labour Day just over the horizon and we head into the homestretch of the summer of 2018, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice has delivered her mis-summer constituency update for residents, posting the link to the overview of her and the government's work to her Facebook page on Thursday.
The major focus for the MLA was to once again highlight some of the housing initiatives that have been put in place across the Northwest over the last few months, among them:
36 units for supportive housing in Prince Rupert
8 units for Seniors in Port Edward
52 units for supportive housing in Terrace
A New Transition House for Kitimat
In addition to the regional housing options, Ms. Rice recounts of the recent plan to build 1,750 units of Indigenous housing in the province, both on and off reserve.
MLA Rice also featured the launch of the BC Bus North route between Prince Rupert and Prince George, a service that was created to fill the gap with the departure of Greyhound from the region earlier this year.
The update for constituents also includes a roll call of community events that the North Coast representative attended in recent months both in Prince Rupert and in other communities across the riding.
With the wildfire season now fully underway and many communities across the Northwest and in the province feeling the pressures and stresses from that situation, Ms. Rice took note of some of the recent announcements from the Provincial government, as well as through her work as Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness.
The constituency report wraps up with an invitation to the Grand Opening of her new office in Prince Rupert, an event set for August 29th from 3 to 6 PM.
Ms. Rice also offers up the suggestion that if North Coast residents wish to keep up to date on her work around the riding, that they follow her on through the constituency website, as well as through her social media feeds of twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
