City confirms extension for Extreme Weather Shelter on Third Avenue West

Councillor Blair Mirau, speaking at yesterday's ground
breaking ceremony for the new Park Avenue Housing project

With yesterday's announcement that work is soon to proceed on the Supportive Housing project planned for Park Avenue, the need to extend the time in service for the city's Extreme Weather Shelter was addressed today.

Councillor Blair Mirau who appears to be filling in for Mayor Lee Brain this week, made note of yesterday's housing announcement through his social media feeds of Facebook and twitter on Wednesday.

Adding that to ensure that there is no service gap for the most vulnerable in the community, that the 25 bed shelter located in the 300 block of Third Avenue West will remain in operation until the new Park Avenue building is ready for occupancy.

No firm timeline for completion of the Park Avenue building was given at yesterday's ground breaking ceremony at the site, though it was noted that its hoped that the building will be ready for occupancy sometime early in 2019.
