The accolades continue to arrive for famed Thaltan-Tlingit master carver Dempsey Bob, who was named among the winners today of the Governor General's Awards in Visual and media Arts.

In the announcement his volume of work and dedication to his art is hailed by the Awards organizers for his impact on the arts not just in the Northwest but far beyond.

"He is recognized as one of few master carvers of his Nation who is pushing the art forward, successfully blending contemporary with the traditional style of Tahltan-Tlingit sculptural art, while remaining true to its complex protocols and unique design history.”

Included in the celebration of his success is a video presentation that highlights his work and his inspiration.

In addition to his impressive works of art, he has been hailed for his mentorship of young artists, much of that through his long standing work with the Fred Diesing School of Northwest Art at Coast Mountain College, of which he was  founding member.

Coast Mountain College shared in on the congratulations today, paying tribute to his contribution to the art of carving and the Northwest.

Dempsey Bob was one of eight to be honoured today, joining an esteemed list of Canadian artists from British Columbia, Western Canada and Central Canada to be recognized for their dedication to their craft and the awareness that it creates.
