Metlakatla to make use of lottery for three ILWU application spots


The Metlakatla First Nation has announced how it plans to award three ILWU local 505 Applications for work on the Prince Rupert waterfront that it has received; noting in a message to members of the community that they will be using a lottery process to award the spots.

Those members who wish to have their name entered in the lottery for the spots are asked to submit their name and contact information to to Tara J. Leighton, at employment@metlakatla.ca, fax 250-624-2813, or text 250-627-9470. 

The information relay for residents also notes that Applicants must be on the Metlakatla Band list and must reside in Prince Rupert, Metlakatla, or Port Edward. 

Also, members who are currently attending Charles Hays Secondary School or Pacific Coast School (currently high school students) are not eligible for this round as they are still in school

If interested you must have information submitted by Tuesday, 23 February 2021 at 4pm. 

The opportunity for a spot on the ILWU board has generated a fair bit of conversation from community members who have responded to the Facebook advisory of yesterday.
