Summer brings recreational fishing/boating groups to the City

Parking is hard to find these days at Rushbrook Floats as increasing
numbers of visitors and local take to area waters

One part of the North Coast Tourism experience is finding some increased participation as we head into the heart of the summer months, with the volume of trucks and boat trailers found down at the Rushbrook Floats an indication that the Recreational Fishery and Boating sector is making a bounce back this season.

A stop over at Rushbrook this week found much of the available space taken up, which is making for a narrow corridor from Drydock road to the Boat Launch at Rushbrook, the overflow of those taking to the water has seen trucks and trailers stretching down George Hills Way at times as far as the Prince Rupert Yacht Club.

While not a scientific study, our casual count of licence plates indicates that the majority of those taking to the water from Rushbrook are from British Columbia, though there is a strong representation by visitors to the North Coast from neighbouring Alberta.

Tourism in the city will be facing some challenges this season, with the Cruise Industry shut down once again this year through Federal government COVID related regulations; as well the fate of the Alaska Ferry is still to be determined with the border remaining closed and the AMHS still to announce what it plans to do with the Prince Rupert to Ketchikan route should it reopen.

  1. There is a sign that says maximun 35 feet. There doesn't seem to be any enforcement of the rules even if a lane is mostly cut off by large truck trailer combinations. . City doesn't seem to care.

Crabbing is going to start deliveries shortly might be a mess when moving the transport trucks around.
