City issues advisory on outdoor skating/use of area lakes and ponds

The City of PR made use
of their mobile app on Tuesday
to share info on ice conditions
on area lakes and ponds
The recent cold snap has given some residents of the city cause to consider breaking out their blades and taking a skate out on some of the city's lakes and ponds which have formed some ice as the temperatures dropped over the last four days or so.

However, exercising caution, the City posted an advisory to its website, Facebook page and Mobile App feature on Tuesday evening, advising residents to take precautions prior to skating on the area ponds or lakes and to ensure that the ice is thick enough to stand up to use.

As part of their advisory, the City makes note of Red Cross recommendations that ice surfaces be at a minimum of 8 inches before multiple numbers of people can take to frozen surfaces.

The chance to hit the ice may have already passed by however, as a warming trend is on the horizon with not only temperatures above the Zero mark but with snow or rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
