Blog Watching: Week ending, February 17, 2019

Fire protection and a possible change in the level of service for the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue service made for the theme of a report for City Council this week and a topic that caught the attention of our reader.

Our preview of the document to be presented at last Monday's council session found a large audience, as did our notes on the decision by council to take the report to an internal workshop for further review.

While the future direction for fire service by far was the most read of our reviews on the week, Basketball also figured large, with our preview of the 60th edition of the All Native Tournament finding a strong audience. As did our look at the final home games for the Charles Hays Senior Boys Rainmakers, who wrapped up their play before tournament time with a pair of games against Caledonia.

The rest of the list of five for  the week explored Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain's trip to Victoria as well as a correspondence from the School District to express concerns over the nature of eligibility requirements for students that may wish to pursue a career in teaching.

However the top story of the week put the focus on what the fate of the City's Fire Department may be, as Council considers a potential change from a full service Department, to one that will be focused on responses that are exterior in approach.

Council to consider Changer in Service Protection Level from Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue at tonight's meeting  -- Our notes on a report to be presented to City Council on Monday evening looking to redefine the duties for the Prince Rupert Fire/Rescue service found a larger audience this week.
