Special Committee for Review of the Police complaint process gets to work in Victoria



While MLA's won't be returning to their desks until Tuesday in Victoria, one committee that was formed in November of last year was back to work this week, with members of the Special Committee to Review the Police Complaint Process holding their first meeting of the year on Wednesday morning, a conference call housekeeping session that nominated the Chair and Deputy Chair for the work ahead.

The Terms of Reference for the Committee were outlined on November 27th, 2018 with the Committee tasked to conduct an audit in respect to the outcome or resolution of randomly selected complaints and investigations, as well as to prepare a report no later than November 26th of 2019.

Heading up the committee is Surrey NDP MLA Garry Begg, a career RCMP officer who served in a number of locations during his time with the Federal force.

Tapped as Deputy Chair is Mike Morris, MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie, he also is a former RCMP member, as well as a former Minster of Public Safety and Solicitor General with the previous Libearl government.

Also serving on the Committee is Adam Olsen (Green Party Saanich North and the Islands), Rachna Singh (NDP Surrey-Green Timbers) along with Ellis Ross, the MLA for Skeena who will bring some perspective from the Northwest to the committee work.
