Blog Watching: Week ending February 24, 2019

The prospect of more industrial growth for the Prince Rupert waterfront captured the largest share of attention this week, as we featured two stories on plans that are in motion that could bring LNG back into the Prince Rupert discussion as well as provide a tenant for a liquid shipment terminal on Ridley Island.

The first was our look at a surprise announcement from Trans Canada related to their Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Line, a project which had come to a stop with the cancellation of the Pacific Northwest project on Lelu Island, the renewed interest comes with word that an un-named investor may be looking to the North Coast again for an LNG development.

The second industrial note outlined how a major investment in Grande Prairie, Alberta may deliver some spin-off business for the Port.

The next Federal election is still more than eight months away, but ready to get into campaign mode is Conservative Claire Ratée who won the Skeena-Bulkley Valley nomination last week.

A change in air travel for the North Coast was a highlight story on the week as readers explored the plans of Air Canada to change to a newer model plan the Q 400 for travel between Prince Rupert and Vancouver.

Wrapping up our look at the list of five is a review of the end of the hockey season for the Prince Rupert Rampage who were topped by the Terrace River Kings in the third and final game of a hard fought semi-final playoff series.

However the top story of the week stirred the embers of some of the past LNG projects that didn't make it to the finish line, with TransCanada pipelines exploring potential partnerships for their Prince Rupert Gas pipeline project.

Trans Canada dips a toe back into Prince Rupert's LNG waters --  The pipeline company that was preparing to deliver natural gas to the now cancelled Pacific Northwest LNG terminal, have kept their options open as they renew their permits amid word that they are looking to welcome a new partner for terminal development in the region.   (posted February  20, 2019)
