Path to the Coy Cup begins as CIHL playoffs get underway this weekend

The CIHL returns to the ice this weekend as the league's five teams look to claim the league championship and for some, take advantage of the chance to move on and compete for the Coy Cup.

Games take place in the arenas of the Northwest and Cariboo through the weekend, with the Kitimat Ice Demons and Terrace River Kings breaking the ice on playoff time with three match ups to carry them through to Sunday.

Tonight the River Kings are in Kitimat for an 8PM puck drop, with games on the schedule for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Terrace.

Quesnel and Williams Lake open up their series tomorrow night in the Stampede City, with return matches in Quesnel set for February 16 and 17.

The Prince Rupert Rampage will not get into the playoff frame of mind until next weekend when they will take on the winner of the Terrace/Kitimat series on the road on Friday.

The Rhinos host their first playoff game of the year at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on Saturday, February 16th.

And while the Coy Cup is the Holy Grail for many teams, regardless of how they fare in the CIHL playoffs, the Terrace River Kings have announced that they won't be participating in the chase for the Coy Cup even if they find success this month.

As team officials explained it to the Terrace Standard, owing to time commitment and travel costs, the Terrace team has chosen not to register for the annual Senior Men's tournament which will take place this year in Fort. St. John.

The Coy Cup will take to the ice from March 26 to 30th.
