From the home office in Prince Rupert, word of a new area code coming to BC starting on May 1sr |
The move makes for the newest prefix to remember, as it is added to the area currently served by 250, 604,778 and 236.
With the arrival of the new area code, CityWest notes that telephone numbers beginning with the prefix 236 may also begin to be assigned to phone users across the region.
In an information statement released on Tuesday, CityWest outlined how the new Area Code will fit in with the existing calling areas now in place.
For customers in the region served by CityWest, the 672 area code will co-exist within the same geographic region as area codes 250 and 778. There will be no change to customers' existing 250 and 778 telephone numbers.
Local and long distance calling areas and prices will not change with the adoption of the new 672 area code. Customers with telephone numbers in area code 672 will get the same calling areas and prices as customers with telephone numbers in 250 and 778.
The Prince Rupert based communication company also noted for the public that 10 digit dialing will continue to be used for local calls for areas that are served by area codes 672, 236, 250 and 778.
The new area code addition will not change anything when it comes to Emergency response calls with 9-1-1 still the number to call should you have an emergency in any area of Northern British Columbia.
