City Council set to award contract for work on Landfill Leachate project

City Council will be asked to green light the work on the leachate lagoon
at the Ridley Island landfill site, part of the process for expansion of
the site for further service in the years ahead

Prince Rupert City Council members will be asked to review a report from Richard Pucci tonight, with the Director of Operations providing some background on the recent bid process related to the city's plans for work on the Landfill Leachate lagoon, a key element of the landfill expansion program that the city is working towards.

The report which is available as part of the City Council Agenda notes that there were four bids received from the recent Request for Bids, with the Operations Department recommending that the Bid from Broadwater Industries make for the one to be awarded the contract for the work.

The Broadwater bid was the lowest of the five received from both local and out of town companies.

The process towards work on the landfill site has been a theme for Council for the last few years, with the project featured in a previous bid request in June of last year.

The need for additional space for the landfill site has first outlined in the summer of 2014.

Separate to tonight's decision on the contract award, City Councillors will also look to move forward with a loan bylaw consultation towards the larger plans for expansion of the Ridley Island Landfill location.
