Wind Warning issued for Prince Rupert, with prospect of winds of 100 km/hr by midnight

A wicked wind is about to blow on the North Coast, with Environment Canada issuing a WIND WARNING for Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii just after 3:30 this afternoon.

The approaching weather system set to bring winds from the southeast of up 100 kilometres per hour  to the region. Rain is also part of the forecast for tonight and into Thursday afternoon. Winds will shift to 50 to 70 km/h later Thursday morning.

Also set to feel the impact of the oncoming storm is the Central Coast and Northern tip of Vancouver Island.

As we noted earlier this week, BC Ferries was proactive at word of the weather for the latter part of this week, having cancelled their sailings out of Prince Rupert on Monday, with no further advisories provided as to their future plans.
