A Vancouver based property development group which had once proposed a somewhat controversial condo development overlooking Prince Rupert harbour has advanced its plans for a major housing development in the Terrace area.

Swiss Real has indicated that it is now making plans to move forward on some expansive housing plans to be built on the Bench area of Terrace, the first of a second wave of the housing units to be a townhouse development in the area of McConnell, the 35 unit townhome project is outlined on the company's website.

Back in 2015, SwissReal received approval from Prince Rupert City Council to move forward with a residential and commercial development on Stiles Place, a development which would have made for a significant change to the skyline of the city's waterfront area in the downtown core.

The project which is still listed on the SwissReal Group website generated a fair bit of controversy among City Council members at the time, with a clear split in how each member wanted to see housing developed in the downtown area.

The Stiles Place project was one of a number of housing projects that made for a flurry of approvals in recent years, none of which has yet to break ground.

There have been no updates on the status of the high profile development in recent years.
