With late notice, a lost opportunity for expanded consultation on proposed housing development for 11th Avenue East

Another step in consultation on the 11th Avenue East housing
proposal took place through a Zoom session on Thursday

There apparently was a community engagement opportunity last night for those with an interest in the 11th Avenue Housing proposal, though few may have known about it, with little public notice provided prior to the Thursday Zoom session which took place at 6:30PM.

While one might imagine, that those most directly adjacent to the proposed housing would have received the invite with a bit more lead time in mind. 

When it came to a larger community notice, the only indication of note on the event from the City of Prince Rupert came yesterday through their Facebook page. 

An advisory of the community participation session posted sometime around the noon hour, six hours or so before the event would begin.

The link to the page provided by the City does offer up some detail as to what was planned for the night, hosted by Human Studio Architecture and Michael Green Architecture 

The session also was to host a Question and Answer period for those who participated, something that would have been worth checking out considering some of the current of discussion on the project these days.

The information page also provides a snap shot of the proposed development and what it hopes to bring to the area along 11th Avenue East at the foot of Edwards Avenue.

There's no indication however from the home page for the session,  as to whether a video archive of the Zoom session is available for viewing, but hopefully the proponents will look to provide a link to one. 

That way providing for some much needed balance in the discussion so far on the proposed housing for that area, and allowing for those who may not have know of the event on the night to have a chance to learn more about the project.

The public consultation is part of the ongoing process of review for the proposed development, though to date City Council has not indicated when the topic will return to the Council Chamber for further discussion and overview.
