Ellis Ross hails work of Friends of False Creek on their clean up initiative

Skeena MLA Ellis Ross shared the work of a group in the
Vancouver area looking to clean up False Creak

The theme of the environment continued to be an area for discussion for Skeena MLA Ellis Ross, who spoke as part of the Monday afternoon session of the legislature,  with MLA calling attention to the work of a Vancouver area group called the Friends of False Creek.

Speaking from the Legislature. Mr. Ross outlined the ambitious plans from the group towards tackling the concerns over healthy waters in their own community.

In his short statement of Monday, the Skeena MLA observed:

The issues they want to tackle are huge, overlapping in historical nature, but their dream is achievable if we do it with a mindset of what our world can look like in five, 20 or 100 years. 

Yes, there are jurisdictional issues. Yes, there are problems with past treatment of the original Indigenous Peoples. And of course, we have pollution problems. 

But now, more than ever, this is the time to dream and, somehow, turn these dreams into visions and, ultimately, some day a reality. 

I've been invited to help. And  I will help where I can, but the one area that I've always been interested in, since 2004, is water quality — specifically, sewage in amounts so great that Vancouverites couldn't go swimming in our waters because of E. coli levels, which, I'm glad to say, Vancouver is starting to address. 

But, this is a worldwide problem as our population grows. But there are very smart and keen people that have been working to address this in a cost-effective manner using newer technologies.

Mr. Ross also noted how there is much work ahead for the group and it will take time, but also speaking to the ability of British Columbians and Canadians to put aside differences to focus on such goals.
