A mix of familiar and new names set to take helm of Board for the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce

This weeks Chamber function also served as the farewell to the outgoing Board for the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce with four Board members and the President for the last four years taking their bows as part of the Annual General Meeting, this year as a Zoom Gathering.

Michelle Bommars-MacNeill brought her two year stewardship of the local business community to a close, with four departing directors for the Board Michael Uehara, Daniella Cappelli, Paul Minhas and Leanne Enns also stepping away.

Taking to the top position as elected President:

Communications Consultant Michael Gurney who replaces Ms. Boomars-MacNeil, the new incoming  President to bring his past experience at the Lester Centre of the Arts and the Prince Rupert Port Authority to the new post at the Chamber.

Craig Hilton from Pembina Pipeline Corporation serves as first vice president and
Eli Kelly of Community Futures as the second V.P.

As we outlined last week, the Chamber had a slate of candidates ready to step into the soon to be vacated Board positions.

This week the Four new directors were named to the board, they include.

Janet Leduc of Kinexus Consulting,
Justin Kohlman of Coast Mountain College,
Glen Arthur of Peter Kiewit Sons, and
David Geranazza of the Gitxaala Nation

The membership of the Chamber faces both challenging and exciting times ahead as the ongoing impact of COVID continues to make for a rough period for local business.

If they can weather the COVID storm, the future for the Prince Rupert and area business community still remains fairly positive.

With an expanding port and new industrial ventures set to arrive and an increase in population expected to bring some increased vitality to the community and the business sector in the years ahead.

You can follow the latest from the Chamber through their website and social media stream.

We keep an eye on the commercial sector from our archive page here.
