Local Scholarship fund in memory of Moe Hays nears halfway mark to its original goal of $15,000

The recent passing of long time Prince Rupert Golf pro Moe Hays has given purpose to many thoughts on how to commemorate the life of the popular Prince Rupert icon.

And one option that has captured the imagination of the community is a call through a Go Fund Me page to help create a Scholarship in Mr. Hays name.

The project was launched on July 7th, with a note as to how the scholarship would be awarded annually to a high school graduate in the community who have excelled academically, as well as in athletics with a preference given to golf.

The early days of the launch have seen some strong success with 52 participants contributing close to 7,000 dollars raised to date towards the initial goal of 15,000 dollars

Word of the passing of the familiar face around the club house and a strong community booster was shared by his family in June and since that time the Prince Rupert golf community has been looking for ways to pay tribute to his commitment to the region and the Scholarship fund idea seems to be an idea generating some strong interest.

The list of those contributing both large and small amounts marked by current residents and many who lived in the community and moved on, but all looking to celebrate the life of the popular pro by looking to help towards a tribute that would carry on through the years.

You can learn more about the project here.
