Prince Rupert fades from view on TV7 as news flow remains limited

At perhaps the busiest period for news making in the community, that of a municipal election, the faces of candidates for Council and School District are getting no close ups on TV 7, the notes of the ongoing campaign one of barely a passing mention.

Viewers of the local television station have found a significantly reduced amount of "local" news from the North Coast in the six weeks, with the TV station based out of Terrace yet to replace the most recently departed news correspondent, Helena Skrinjar, who left the station in early September.

Since then, few Prince Rupert stories have made it beyond a short mention on the evening newscast, with no expanded overviews on any of the issues or stories of note for the region since the reporter took her leave.

For instance, the recent Prince Rupert All Candidates Forum at the Lester Centre, received little coverage from the Terrace station, other than a mention on the 6 PM newscast.

In recent weeks, the actual flow of news on television has been reduced even further, the last of the locally reported features coming on September 27th, with a story on the Kitimat Election Forum.

The rolling archive of news items on the CFTK home page also in a time warp of sorts, last updated on October 2nd.

The staffing situation seems to be an ongoing problem for the TV station, with no indication that a reporter seems on the way for Prince Rupert to bring the stories from this corner of the Northwest to television screens, the station has now posted a help wanted ad for reporter for their Terrace station.

Until those staffing requirements are taken care of, it would appear that for the most part any hopes for  expanded time for news from Prince Rupert is but wishful thinking, with the North Coast notes seemingly to be left to the short passing reviews of the anchor.
