Golf course set to shift into Fall/Winter maintenance program
There's no official closing date set for the Prince Rupert Golf Course, and with the weather as it has been the last few weeks, more than a few of the North Coast golfing community have been taking advantage of the opportunity to get in another round of golf before the November rains arrive.
As they take the course however, over in the Golf Course maintenance office, course superintendent Peter Drake is putting together the fall and winter maintenance program and looking to address some of the items from the summer that might have slipped through the cracks.
Among some of the work on the to do list, repairs for poor spots on the greens and work to aerate and top dress approaches as well as to re-contour those areas where water may accumulate through the fall, filling them with sand and then reseeding those areas in the spring.
Work late in the season also saw a new chipping green installed on the north side of the 18th fairway, with hopes that a mild winter will allow that green to be opened in time for late spring or early summer of 2019.
For golfers the good news is that there are no plans to close the course so far into the fall, though golfers are warned that frost delays can make for delays in taking to the course and limit the use of carts on it. Golfers are asked to see if carts are allowed for use on a day to day basis
For the fall season, first tee times move to 11 AM, 7 days a week., with the Pro Shop hours running from 11 AM to 615 PM.
The Driving Range however is Closed for the remainder of the season.
