Multiple quakes magnitudes of 6.8, 6.6, 6.5 reported South West of Port Alice

A 6.6 earthquake was recorded offshore SW of Port Hardy Sunday night


The seismic plates have shifted once again off the coast of British Columbia, as a pair of significant earthquake have been recorded offshore of Vancouver Island Sunday evening.

The first a  6.6 magnitude event was reported at 10:39 PM was listed at 135 kilometres SW of Port Alice on the West coast of Vancouver Island, the quake had a  depth of 11 kilometres.

The second larger than the first at 6.8 magnitude was reported at 11:16 PM at a depth of 13 kilometres, and as with the first, No Tsunami danger was expected from the second event.

A third event was recorded at 11:22PM , listed at 6.5 magnitude at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Smaller aftershocks were recorded into the early morning hours



While strong quakes, the Tsunami Warning Centre did not issue any form of advisory related to the Sunday evening events.






The area has been the location for a number of smaller seismic incidents in recent months.
