Rupert Lawn and Garden recognized by BC government at start of Small Business week

The hard work of those that deal with Prince Rupert's ever changing outdoor elements tending to our lawns and gardens has been recognized provincially.

With Rupert Lawn and Garden gaining a review in this years annual report from the Ministry of Small Business, all part of the launch of Small Business week in British Columbia.

The profile of the local business, which was created through the Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Economic Development Corporation, has CEO Blair Mirau outlining some of the elements of the program that led to the creation of Rupert Lawn and Garden and its lawn maintenance service.

Key among the vision for the Development Corporation was the ability to create sustainable  jobs that help to provide towards family income.

As the review notes  the efforts have been quite successful in the short period of time that the company has been in business. With the Rupert Lawn and Garden client list growing to the point that the operation has expanded staff from four, to the 16 members currently working the lawns of Prince Rupert and area.

Among the challenges that had to be addressed prior to taking over from the previous owners at Azalea Gardens at Seal Cove was how to address start up capital.

And as Mirau explains in the article that was achieved by reaching out to a number of funding programs for Indigenous programs that are currently available  for Indigenous entrepreneurs and start ups.

The review of the Prince Rupert business is one of a number of profiles from across British Columbia that is found as part of the fifty eight report, which was compiled by Small Business BC, BC Stats and the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology

The Rupert Lawn and Garden profile is available for review on page six of the document.
