Reaching Home initiative seeks to address Indigenous homelessness in Prince Rupert

A project hosted by the Federal Government is currently taking applications for it's Reaching Home program, an initiative that has been created to address the issue of Indigenous homelessness across the country.

The program is not one designed to provide for physical housing units, but rather to assist communities as they look to find solutions to the homelessness situation that they area facing and to help various groups work together towards the common cause.

The snapshot focus of Reaching Home is as follows:

The Reaching Home program will fund activities that contribute to the objectives of the program while reflecting local realities and community needs and opportunities. The eligible activities and expenses are grouped into 5 categories of activities directed at achieving the program objective of preventing and reducing homelessness. These eligible activities and expenditures apply to all funding streams, with a small number of clearly identified exceptions.

In Prince Rupert the program is being managed through the Prince Rupert Aboriginal Community Services Society in the Ocean Centre.

Derry Bott is the Reaching Home Coordinator and can answer questions and steer applicants through the process of application, towards the deadline of July 31st for those looking to submit their applications.
