With another full week of work at an end, MLA's head off for a week long break timed for the BC Day weekend, having put in motion a range of COVID related measures as they take their leave.
The now five day work week continues to feature House activities Monday to Wednesday, with Committee work taking up the load on Thursday and Fridays.
This week found Skeena MLA Ellis Ross participating through video link as part of the House functions, as well those of committee.
North Coast Jennifer Rice, continued her work from Prince Rupert, participating by remote video connection as well.
On the delivery of funding notes, the province offered up some help for community sports groups and associations impacted by COVID 19

Outside of the Legislature work, the concerns over COVID on Haida Gwaii were met with more measures put in place towards community outbreak noted by Northern Health.

Also related to the Governments response to COVID was a return of some authority to local government towards their own measures, though they were focused on other areas outside of the coronavirus

On the week, Ms Rice was listed twice in the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from July 27-31
In Statements as part of the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions, Ms. Rice spoke to the COVID outbreak on Haida Gwaii as well as to tourism concerns in the region

Through her social media feed, Ms. Rice also addressed the outbreak of COVID on Haida Gwaii, with a call for residents to 'bend the curve'

Ms. Rice was also part of an announcement related to a Memorandum of Understanding on protection of the Great Bear Rainforest and economic development for that region

This week also saw some funding delivered towards fighting racism including for one group in Prince Rupert

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross was mentioned once in the record for Legislature from July 27-31
The Skeena MLA participated in a Committee session related to Public Safety and the Solicitor General making enquiries of the Minister Mike Farnworth on themes of RCMP deployments past and what plans the province has for any future civil disruptions in the future.

The Terrace are received some positive news from the province of BC this week as well, with 100 Daycare spaces to be funded by the government with a new Daycare facility to be in place by September of 2021.

Skeena also heard news of a new highways maintenance contract in place, with a new maintenance provider now handling the roads for the next nine years.

Mr. Ross is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.
He has also been appointed to the Standing Committee on Children and Youth
and as noted above, he has been appointed to the newly created Committee to study the Police Act.

MLA's will get the next week off, before heading back to work on August 10th, that date will mark the start of the last week for the Summer session.
