Wolf sightings becoming more frequent in Prince Rupert in recent weeks

The month of January proved to be a popular one for sightings of wolves in the city, with social media accounts in recent weeks making notes on some of the travels, some in areas of the city with high foot traffic for youngsters and popular areas for walking dogs.

Among some of the areas of note that were observed:

The area of Ninth Avenue West near the Middle School/Recreation Centre, the area of Drydock road and George Hills Way and Further to the West in the Comox area, as well as along the highway near Port Edward to name a few.

So far, The BC Conservation Officer Service has not made note of the Prince Rupert sightings through their Social Media stream.

The alerts are something for those who travel the trails and areas near wooded areas, to keep in mind, as well as something of note for homeowners with small pets.

Should you have a concern about a dangerous interaction with wildlife in the city you are asked to report the incident to the Conservation Service, learn more about how to do that here.

The phone number to contact the Service is 1-877-952-7277 (RAPP) or #7277 on the TELUS Mobility Network

  1. Residents continue to leave out food sources, or feed wildlife.
City bylaw does not or will not enforce it
    The wolves move in
Bylaw officers in Terrace get a bunch of calls and social media feeds in Rupert are full of wolf pictures.
    No action is taken

    Rinse and repeat for 2024.
