Still Standing more than year past the fire that consumed its neighbour Roses' rubble remains in place on Third West |
It's been just over a month since Prince Rupert residents were advised that it should be just a few weeks until they saw shovels and diggers in the ground around two long standing eyesores in the downtown area.
"I am working through the process, for the demolition process for Rosie's it is in progress, so we could have the quotes and what not in line to remove that debris. So I'm hoping within the next couple of weeks we'll see shovels and diggers and the whole bit. But we do need to ensure that utilities are shut off and everything is good and clear" -- Corporate Administrator Rosa Miller at the October 10th Council Session
Yet as Mid November beckons, the rubble of the Roses's Building on Third and the Burned out frame of the Angus Apartments on Second Avenue West remain in place ...
The mechanism of civic orders seemingly that of a low moving thing for both properties, though apparently a larger issue for the Angus Apartments, which were transferred to the City's name following tax sale.
"In terms of the Angus Apartments ... the property was subject to Tax Sale so we are just in the process as I understand from Finance, of completing that transfer to the City in the name of the city and then we will commence that clean up as well." -- Corporate Administrator Rosa Miller at the October 10th Council Session
Not from the back nor the front is any indication that work is imminent on the Angus Apartments |
The most recent update for the public came as part of the October 10th session, with Mayor Pond noting of the need to observe of all the legalities before seemingly putting an excavator to work.
Council did not seek any updates on the situation at their late October session and the still standing visual of the two buildings did not make for Mayor Pond's closing commentary on Budget Night on the 9th.
Tonight's Agenda at the moment, doesn't include any updates on the twin properties.
So hopefully, tonight's the night where the timeline is offered up as to when those excavators rumble into place and some closure towards a far too long running saga will come.
Some notes towards what is on the Agenda for tonight can be reviewed from our Preview here.
Based on the comment from the corporate administrator. Will taxpayers eventually own the Angus property due to a tax default and assume demolition costs?
ReplyDeleteWill this property turn into a Prince Rupert version of love it or list it?
Is the building next to city furniture slated to come down as well?
ReplyDeleteOne thing for sure is the administration and council can’t be embarrassed into action.
