Social Media posting leads Prince Rupert RCMP to make arrests, seize weapons

A weekend investigation by the Prince Rupert RCMP has seen two people arrested and three firearms seized in relation to a careless use of firearms. 

In a statement released by the Prince Rupert detachment today, the Mounties outlined the nature of their weekend work.

On Wednesday November 22nd, 2023 the Prince Rupert RCMP became aware of a Facebook post circulating that included the careless use of firearms. 

An investigation took place which resulted in four warrants being executed, two in Lax Kw’alaams and two in Prince Rupert. 

As a result of the search warrants police were able to locate the firearms used in the commission of the offence which have been subsequently seized by the police.

The three weapons seized by Prince Rupert RCMP were on display as part of their information statement.

"Although the firearms were legally owned and registered properly by the owner, the concern was the nature they were used,  handling, storage and safety of firearms is the responsibility of all firearm owners." -- Media Relations Officer Constable Brody Hemrich 

The RCMP note that they will be submitting a report to the BC Prosecution Service who will review it and consider laying criminal charges related to these cases.
