A call for support from council for some proposed housing for Seal Cove is part of tonight's Agenda for the 7PM Council Session |
The first tentative step that could lead to some housing development on land in the Seal Cove area is up for review tonight at Prince Rupert City Council, that as City Council members will be asked to provide for a letter of support towards a quest for funding from the property developer KeyCorp.
The request asking for the city offer its support towards an application to the BC Housing Community Housing Fund towards what would see approximately seventy units at a minimum of housing proposed for the site.
The initial housing plans were announced In November of 2022, just ahead of the municipal election, with KeyCorp Developments from Langford and the City announcing plans towards the sale of quarry lands at Seal Cove to the developer for housing.
The announcement of the time noted as that of 300 units over the longer term, with 75 units to start making for homes for working professionals and retirees the focus at the time for the proposed housing.
Today's request for a letter of support is the first mention of housing for the site since the November 2022 announcement. The topic of the Seal Cove land sale or the housing plans has yet to be discussed by the new council installed one year ago in November of 2022.
