Gary Reece returned to Mayor's office in Lax Kw'alaams

Election officials in Lax Kw'alaams released the results of yesterday's Band Election, with Mayor Gary Reece returning for another four year term with a strong endorsement from the Band Membership.

Mr. Reece received 415 votes of those participating in the vote, outpacing his next two nearest challengers in John Helin with 267 votes and Harvey Russell who received 266, the three other candidates for mayor received less than 100 votes.

The Council election saw the top 12 finishers grouped fairly close together in the vote count.

Shawn White led the way in the count with the most votes for a Council post wth 634 votes, he will be one of six newcomers to the Council for the term ahead.

Joining White on Council will be:

Gerladine Alexcee (incumbent) -- 418 votes
Gayle Bedard -- 417 votes

Braden Dudoward 
(incumbent) -- 378 votes
Debra Kelly -- 515 votes
Lonnie Mather -- 386 votes
Kelly Sampson (incumbent) --597 votes
Thelma Sankey -- 386 votes
Leona Wells 
(incumbent) -- 357 votes
Joey Wesley 
(incumbent) -- 491 votes 
Sharon Wesley -- 416 votes
Ted White 
(incumbent) -- 422 votes 

In total 26 candidates were seeking the 12 seats available on Council.

Balloting took place in two locations on election day in Lax Kw'alaams and Prince Rupert, voters also had the option of voting on line or by mail.

The results were streamed live to the Membership through the Lax Kw'alaams social media stream.
