Curling Club hosting Fishermen's Sturling Spiel Saturday

Rocks will be filling the house and hopefully a few new curlers to the game as well, as the Prince Rupert Curling Club hosts the latest event on the North Coast curling calendar this weekend.

The Fishermen's Sturling Spiel is set for Saturday, featuring a different format to the traditional four person teams on the pebbled ice.

27 teams are expected to participate, with the draw sheet available at the Curling Club's Facebook page.

The Sturling event feature Three Games with 2 person teams featuring stick or slide delivery.  Sweeping and brushing is only allowed from the hog line to the back of the house at the playing end.

All of the games consist of six ends and in the case of a tie, an extra end is played with each player delivering 3 stones, with the skip and deliverers exchanging roles at the midpoint of the extra end.

And while traditionalists perhaps may shake their heads at some of the concepts, the Saturday event offers the chance to introduce the game to new participants and provide something a little different for those who are long time members of the curling scene in Prince Rupert.

The Sterling Spiel also makes for a Saturday social event, with a dinner included as part of the fifty dollar entry fee per team. Prince Rupert's Wheelhouse Brewing Company is a sponsor of the event and will be making beverages available for those taking in the action on the ice.

The qualifying rounds take place during the day, with the A, B, C and D Finals scheduled for after the dinner hour.

The A and B semi Finals are at 7 PM, the C and D semi finals go at 8 and all four final games take place at 9 PM
