Blog Watching: Week ending June 7, 2020

Education themes dominated the week around the North Coast with a return to class for students for the remainder of June and the story that attracted the most attention on the week, that of the departure of Superintendent Irene LaPierre, with the parting of the ways with the School District announced on June 2nd.

Other items of interest on the week, included the arrival in Prince Rupert of the provincial police watchdog agency the Independent Investigations Office, getting to work on a review of a police incident which saw a woman fall 20 feet from a spot along 1st Avenue West to an area below.

As British Columbia continues to restart its economic and social activities following months of attention to the COVID pandemic, the latest modelling from the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control provides a glimpse as to how successful the response in the Northern Health region has been.

And the week was one filled with stories of wolves, with Conservation Officers from Terrace in both Prince Rupert and Port Edward this week on the hunt for wolves following a Friday night attack on a Senior in that community.

But when it came to the most read item of the last week, it was a surprising development out of the School Board offices that captured the most attention of readers.
