Haida Gwaii officials still advise Non-resident and Leisure travel not permitted

While Haida Gwaii begins to loosen some of their COVID measures, they
still are holding with their Non-essential and travel restrictions to the Islands

The latest COVID-19 update from Haida Gwaii has outlined the latest steps as part of the response to the pandemic with a number of measures still in place and a call for Non-essential and leisure travellers to stay home for now.

The update was posted to both the Council of the Haida website and that of the North Coast Regional District this week and relays the range of measures that local businesses and services must have in place as well as a call for continues respect for physical distancing and good hygiene.

The Notice also reminds residents and those visiting the Island for essential reasons to increase their social interactions after fully considering the risks to you, your family, friends and community.

For those essential workers travelling to Haida Gwaii the guidelines for their arrival on the Islands is as follows:

Those coming to Haida Gwaii to conduct essential service work must apply through the Council of the Haida Nation and include a Safe Work Procedure and Safe Community Plan. Essential service workers need to self-isolate and/or follow requirements according to Work Permits issued, follow physical distancing measures and hygiene guidelines during isolation and after. Applications can take 7-10 days to process,

To apply for the permits contact essentialworkpermits@haidanation.com

Council of the Haida Nation President Gaagwiis (Jason Alsop) provided a video update for Islanders earlier this week to outline the ongoing response.
