Deadline for those seeking property Tax Exemptions fast approaching

Having now moved past the July 2nd deadline for payment of property taxes, one other deadline of note for property owners looms, that the date for those volunteer groups and agencies that may wish to claim Property Tax Exemption status.

That process is one which offers civic support for organizations that meet the criteria and for the most part means that their property taxes are covered off by the remainder of those who pay municipal taxes.

More background on the qualifications required towards exempt status and the application forms required towards it can be reviewed here.

Last year, the granting of property exemptions by Prince Rupert City Council resulted in exemptions of near 363,000 dollars, some are of significant amounts, though the majority of the exemptions come in less than the 20,000 dollar range.

The list of those who qualified for exemption for 2020 was provided by the City in September of last year.
