With little in the way of fanfare, Black Press reveals its subscription plans for local newspaper

The Digital subscription schedule for the northern view
was released on Monday, with three rates announced for customers

Monday was launch day for the latest evolution for the Northern View's recently announced subscription program.

Though there was no splashy introduction or celebration for the program,  with the link to the customer options simply added to the masthead of the online version of the local publication marking its territory on the left hand side of the website..

A click on the link to that page notes of three options towards the subscription plan and what additional benefits that each have to offer, the price points for each as follows:

Standard $1.15 per week ($59.98 per year)
Premium $1.24 per week ($64.44 per year)
Premium Plus $1.74 per week  ($90.48 per year)

The details to how each works can be reviewed here.

Among the more notable elements of the pitch to would be customers, is a faster website and fewer ads,  Crosswords and Puzzles, and the opportunity to support local journalism.

From the Premium plus subscription will come access to a Birthday newspaper Edition  and credits for Birth, Wedding and Anniversary announcements.

So far, Black Press officials have not outlined how the Subscription program may impact on the volume of content that is currently available from the online access to the newspaper.

As we noted last week, the introduction of the Subscription program came as the front page story of last weeks edition of the weekly paper delivered to homes at midweek.

That story from November 10th,  was added to the paper's website this afternoon.

More notes on the local media scene can be reviewed from our archive page.

  1. The subscription model is simply a way to scale ad revenue for Black Press and not so much about supporting local journalism.
